I just downloaded the latest verson of DevForce 2010 which is version 6.1.16.1. I tried to upgrade the IdeaBlade.DevForce-2010.Aop in my project from nuget to match the DevForce version I just installed. It is giving me an error during the install complaining that "The DevForce 2010 Code First package is version 6.1.16.0, while the version of DevForce 2010 installed is 6.1.16.1."

Does the nuget package for the AOP need to be updated to match the latest version of DevForce 6.1.16.1?

All the updates to DevForce in the past have mostly just been a 3 digit version number. Why did this one jump to 4?

Dear Support Team,

My ASP.Net application is developed using Devforce 2010 v6.1.3.1. When I deploy the application to windows 7 ultimate everything works fine. But when I deploy the application to Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, the application fails to connect to database and I get the following two exceptions

"Cannot obtain System.Data.Entity.Database.DefaultConnectionFactory: at IdeaBlade.EntityModel.Edm.EFCodeFirstTypes.get_DefaultConnectionFactory() at IdeaBlade.EntityModel.Edm.DbKey.CheckForCodeFirst(String name, String connectionString) at IdeaBlade.EntityModel.Edm.DbKey.Initialize() at IdeaBlade.EntityModel.Edm.DbKey..ctor(ClientEdmKey clientKey)"

and

"DevForce CodeFirst support requires ADO.NET Entity Framework 4.1. Assembly EntityFramework.dll was not found.: at IdeaBlade.EntityModel.Edm.EFCodeFirstTypes.get_EntityFramework() at IdeaBlade.EntityModel.Edm.EFCodeFirstTypes.get_DefaultConnectionFactory()"

The EntityFramework.dll is always prent in the bin folder of the application. Can you please help me here?

Sorry but this feature is yet to be implemented and I still don't have a timeline.

Your suggestion makes sense and is well taken.

I'm wondering if there has been any update to this? Each time we upgrade to a new Dev Force version, it becomes increasingly annoying to maintain our own version of the 'Generate' method in our custom T4s. It would be really nice if there could be a way to opt-out of the metadata searching in cases where people don't need it. Since I'm already overriding the standard templates, I'd be fine with a code-only solution. For example, the logic related to metadata searching could be moved to its own method and then marked virtual. Then I'd be able to override it so I can skip just that logic.

Based on the exception, it looks like the entity type returned by the query is not being found.

Hard to tell why by looking at your snippet.

A repro solution will help to determine why this is happening.

Please provide a small solution reproducing the issue.

Please target NorthwindIB in the repro solution.

I am using CodeDom to create and execute runtime specified full LINQ queries, which is working nicely. However, I am now trying to add support for IncludePaths and am getting the below exception that I can't find any documentation on.

Yesterday i was fighting with this problem again. Because we have renamed the Domain Model (EDMX) several times, we had a problem on the TeamCity Build Server side. Building the project was no problem, but at runtime some weard issues appeared.

I now force to clean all build directorys and i was able to get rid of this issue.

If you have the same problem, please try to clean all build direcotrys (bin/debug) and run it again.

i am also receiving the same issue. But only on the ClickOnce deployed versions.

Locally my models work just fine...

Currently the only solution to fix this problem, is to delete the entity edmx and recreate it from scratch.

Hi Thomax,

This feature has yet to be implemented.

But you are correct. If you are setting the CommandTimeout in the Querying event, then that will set the timeouts for each query that goes out.

Please be aware that the query timeouts is but one of many timeouts that you should be aware of.

Our tests for the above bug report still pass for 6.1.16. You may have a slightly different scenario. Could you attach a reproducible solution so we may be able to investigate further?

I would personally just bring them back as is from the table and not worry about trying to do that in SQL. Mapped something like decimal? or rate? (assuming C#) and then do a null check in the code. You could do something like

Hi Bill,

I would say that as a rule of thumb, if the entities you're inserting, updating or deleting are not required on the client, you can safely use Stored Procs.

That's correct. You can use the following logic to copy values from oldJob to newJob

One way to do this is through the use of the entity metadata.

Below is a code snippet:

up to this point in my upgrading a vb app, I have been using Objects to work from my data. Now i am coming across some vb code that relies heavily on SQL for iserrts, updates, and deletes. I am looking for some recommendations here. Should i continue using objects and look through collections for inserting, update, and deleting moderate amounts of data or should i use Link to SQL or even Stored Procedures? What advice could you give me here?
