There is now an option for fixing up the ids on just the objects that you are saving. It's described in the release notes for 3.4.x version I believe.

Is there a way that when I have 2 new entities, to tell the persistence manager to only get a new ID for 1 of them (the one I wish to save).  I’d like to leave the other one alone until the user explicitly saves that one.
