Dev Express XtraGrid and FilterBuilder

We are using the dev express XtraGrid with Dev Force and have a problem with the Custom AutoFilter and the FilterBuilder in the grid.
 
When we have fields in the grid which are dropdowns (populated from a relational object property) the dropdown shows no text in the filterbuilder or custom autofilter dropdowns. the data is there and I can blindly pick one and the value gets set and is visible but the data in the dropdowns is not visible.
 
Any ideas on how to fix this?
