IAuthenticationProvider has been deprecated since DevForce2010 v6.1.6.
It was deprecated to give way to single sign-on/sign-off capabilities within an application.

You should be using Authenticator now. For more information, please check our DRC page at http://drc.ideablade.com/devforce-2012/bin/view/Documentation/authentication-details.
