Hi,

I installed DevForce on two XP (SP3) computers and get the
following odd behavior on both with VS2008 (SP1):

After the installation, when I double-click on a *.SLN file
in Windows Explorer, Visual Studio opens Ok, but it _always_
starts _minimized_.  I have to look over at the task bar to
see if it opened and click on the VS icon to restore the
VS IDE's window to a normal state.

With DF installed, openning _all_ *.SLN files (not just ones
for DF projects) exhibit this issue.  When I uninstall DF,
Visual Studio opens normally again (un-minimized).

Any idea what this might be?

---------------------
The above issue is just annoying, but a more serious problem I've
seen on some larger DF solutions is that when I right-click on
the properties of a project in the solution, VS immediately
crashes/exits.

Has that issue been reported before?

Thanks,
Alan Cobb

We have made some fixes in 5.2.3 with respect to Visual Studio crashes.  The Release Notes list this defect repair:

• DevForce now guards against Visual Studio crashes when the Object Mapper opens. [B1148]

Have you heard of or seen the "VS starts minimized" behavior before?

Thanks,

I have been trying to reproduce the behavior you are experiencing without any success. The only thing that comes to mind is some incompatability with another add-on. What other tools do you have installed ?  Have you tried DevForce as the only add-on ?  We use tools such as ReSharper with DevForce in VS but we can't possibly test all of the 3rd party tools available out there.

Ok, thanks.  Yes, it looks like this is a my-machines-only kind of problem.

I played around a bit today with WinDbg attempting to figure out why VS crashes / exits
as previously described.  I'll let you know when I figure something out.

Thanks,

Hi Josh0,

>The only thing that comes to mind is some incompatability with another add-on.

Actually, DevForce is the only Add-In I have installed.

The behavior I described previously of VS2008 openning minimized
when I click on a *.SLN from Explorer, is for XP.

I recently tried the same DF version (EnterpriseUniv-Express, v5.2.3.1)
on Vista-32 and Win7-64.  On those I get slightly different,
but still problematic behavior.  When I click on a *.SLN from Windows
Explorer, instead of VS2008 openning minimized, it opens unminimized
(good), but behind/underneath Explorer (irritating).
