Question:

Please tell us which release of the DevXpress control suite (aka DXperience) these DevForce releases are compatible with:

  • DevForce release 3.3.0.3
  • DevForce release 3.3.1.1

When, or which release, is it anticipated that DevForce will be compatible with these DXperience releases?

  • DXperience 6.3.2
  • DXperience 6.3.3

Using the “Binding Redirect” technique, that DevForce asks about when it is being installed, how soon will it be possible to use DXperience release 6.3.3?

Answer:

Here is the general rule:

  1. Support for a major release of DevEx occurs with a specific release of DevForce.  For example, support for DevEx 6.2.x support commenced with DevForce 3.2.1.x.
  2. Support for a major release of DevEx implies support for all succeeding minor releases.  For example. when we released support for DevEx 6.2.2, we assumed that the AssemblyBindingRedirector will provide support for DevEx 6.2.3, 6.2.4, 6.2.5, 6.2.6,
  3. You can't use the AssemblyBindingRedirector to redirect from one major release to another.  In other words, you can't use the AssemblyBindingRedirector to redirect DevEx 6.2.2 to DevEx 6.3.2.

Exceptions to the general rule:

  • It is always possible (but it hasn't happened yet - at least that I know) that a minor release could contain a breaking change.  If this is the case, AssemblyBindingRedirection won't help.

Current Situation for DevEx 6.2.x

  • Support for DevEx 6.2.x has been available since DevForce 3.2.1.0.

Current Situation for DevEx 6.3.x

  • Support for DevEx 6.3.x will be available in DevForce 3.4.0.x.
