IdeaBlade 2.x and DevForce can be installed and run on the same development machine.

There are no particular DevForce-speecific restrictions to running on Windows Server 2003.  There may be issues related to user privileges on Windows Server but these are not related to the use of DevForce.

Keep in mind that IdeaBlade 2.x integrates with Visual Studio 2003 and DevForce integrates with Visual Studio 2005.  You will need to have both these IDE's on your system to use both IdeaBlade and DevForce.  If you have not previously installed these products, it would probably be best to install Visual Studio 2003, IdeaBlade, and then Visual Studio 2005 followed by DevForce.  In addition, we have found that if you are going to install SQL Server 2005 on this system, it is best to install this before installing Visual Studio.

Thank you for the information.

When I install DevForce on my machin (windows 2003 server), under {c:\Program Files\Ideblade DevFor} folder I don’t see many files (dll’s etc.,) for e.g., IdeaBlade.UI.WinForms.DevExpressControls.v2_2_0.Design.dll or …v6_1_3.dll’s etc.,

We are using ‘IdeaBladeDevForce.3.4.0.3f.setup.exe’ version for DevForce.

Also, I installed the same one on my other machine (windows XP Professional) and everything is good. Also, in Add/Remove programs list, it shows the size as 187.00 MB where on windows 2003 server, the size is 175.00 MB

On my both machines I maintained same versions Developer Express controls. The only difference I see is on my windows XP professional, I uninstalled Ideablade 2.x version.

On my windows 2003 server machine, I do have installed both VS 2003 and VS 2005 installed.

Let me know if any specific information is needed on this.

By the way, the reason for me to have both versions of Ideablace 2.x and 3.x is to support production version of our code which is using Ideablade 2.x.

What files do you think you are missing on your Windows 2003 server DevForce installation?

Did you specify installing support for 3rd party tools (e. g. DevExpress) in your Windows 2003 server installation?

Have you installed the Tutorials in your Windows 2003 server installation?  If you have not and you did on your XP box, this could account at least in part for the size difference between the two installations as shown in Add/Remove Programs.

Did you install DevExpress before or after installing DevForce on your Windows 2003 server?  Also, what versions of DevExpress did you install?  My understanding is that DevExpress (like us) has different installation packages for .NET 1.1/VS 2003 and .NET 2.0/VS 2005.  Do you know what the target environments for your DevExpress installations are?

Offhand I don't think that the presence or absence of IdeaBlade should make a difference in what files are added by the DevForce install.  In my experience the fact that you had uninstalled IdeaBlade 2.x from your XP box should not make a difference.

If you can give me the information I have requested we can better discern what is going on with your Windows 2003 server machine.

What files do you think you are missing on your Windows 2003 server DevForce installation?

>>>>>>Please see the screenshots attached, look for windows explorer screen shots for both windows xp/2003 OS.

Did you specify installing support for 3rd party tools (e. g. DevExpress) in your Windows 2003 server installation?

 >>>>>>I selected ‘Complete’ installation option, which installs all the available installs. Also, I don’t see an option ‘support for 3rd party tools’, all it has is ‘Devforce’ which by default is selected and grayed out (not editable) and the other is ‘Documentation’, which is by default selected and I left as it is.

Have you installed the Tutorials in your Windows 2003 server installation?  If you have not and you did on your XP box, this could account at least in part for the size difference between the two installations as shown in Add/Remove Programs.

>>>>>>I installed Tutorials too; I could see those folders and files. This is not the case.

>>>>>>First I installed DevExpress v6.3 and later installed DevForce. Screen shots has the version information of all the DevExpress and DevForce installations from both XP and 2003 PC’s

Offhand I don't think that the presence or absence of IdeaBlade should make a difference in what files are added by the DevForce install.  In my experience the fact that you had uninstalled IdeaBlade 2.x from your XP box should not make a difference.

>>>>>>Will devforce create a log of its installation? Where can I find that log? It might shed some light on what it is doing….

If you can give me the information I have requested we can better discern what is going on with your Windows 2003 server machine.

>>>>>>Let me know if you need any other information.

 >>>>>>Also, when installing DevForce, it pops up a window about ‘version conflict’ and I select ‘Yes’ for redirection. Even I tried both ‘yes’ and ‘no’ options, but both resulted the same thing. No luck.

I have another question.  When you ran the install on Windows Server 2003, did you see a window where you were asked to enter a Product key?

In addition, when you ran the install on Windows Server 2003, were you logged on as a user with Administrative privilege?

I have another question.  When you ran the install on Windows Server 2003, did you see a window where you were asked to enter a Product key?

 >>>>>>>>No, it didn’t asked me for any product key

In addition, when you ran the install on Windows Server 2003, were you logged on as a user with Administrative privilege?

  >>>>>>>>Yes, I have Administrative privilege on Windows Server 2003

Thanks for your help

Take a look on your Windows Server 2003 system and see if you have a directory called:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Protexis

If you do, delete it.

Uninstall DevForce.  Reinstall it.  You should at some point get a window that requests user information including a Product key.  Enter your product key.  It should be a a Professional or greater product key in order to get the third party control suite support.  Proceed with the install as you did previously.  The assemblies that support the third party controls should now be installed.

Please let me know if this works.

Yes, it worked now. I could see all the 3rd party control suite support.

Thank you,
