I would guess that DevExpress is somehow corrupted.  I have seen this problem with DevExpress before where a particular version on a particular machine goes bad and constant reinstallation does not fix the problem.  Fortunately, this has only happened to a handful of customers.  Many of the people who have this problem get around the problem by migrating to the newer version of DevForce.  For example, you might wait for DevEXpress 8.1, but this might not be an option for you  Can you move to another machine?  I am not sure that this will work.

You might try contacting Dev Expresss Technical Support.

Thank you for trying David.

In the beginning everything worked very well with no problems, in my machine too.

What is your guess?

I installed a new Virtual Machine with DevForce 3.6.0.2 , DevEXpress 7.3.7 on a mchine with VS2008.  I tried your machine.config and had no problems running my app;lication which used DevEXpress 7.3.7.

I suspect that there may be some corruption on your machine, but I can only guess what might be corrupted

I am using 32-bit Windows XP (Dev Machine)

The assembly binding redirector says Supported Version: 7.3.3.0, Installed Version: 7.3.7.0

I am sending you my machine.config

I was building a UI for a db dealing with small to medium sized plants.
For Entities Equipment (+ Pump, Screw, Aerator, Motor etc) i built a generalization hierarchy, and was trying to provide the UI. I built a base form (Equipment) and inherited forms for the specifics (Pumps, Screws, Aerators, Motors etc)

Then everything teared down...

Reinstalling DevExp 7.3.7 and then DevForce 3.6.0.2 shoul have fixed all of your problems. THe fact that it doesn't makes me fear that perhaps your machine.config file may nave become corrupted.  I'll ask you for some information, and then some material to reproduce the problem.

Are you using a 64-bit OS?

Are tou running XP or Vista?

Does the Assembly Binding Redirector Tool report the correct versions of DevExpress?

Can you send me the Machine.Config and a simple app that tries to use DevExpress 7.3.x that fails?

What is your best guess as to the change you made immediately before things stopped working?

I am using Visual Studio 2008, DevExpress Suite (7.3.7) and DevForce 3.6.0.2

DevForce 3.6.0.2 supports DevExpress 7.3.x (binding redirector is acting here)

Both tools have support for VS 2008

For some time everything worked well.

I have implemented a a generalization hierarchy involving one parent and many child tables
and thought it would be a good idea to build a master form and inherit the UI for the child tables from this.

After a while, Devforce could not load DevExpress components. Their inter operation ceased!

Since then i re-installed everything (again and again) with several combinations (previous versions) but never again had a working environment.

Can i expect that the new version of Devforce will solve my problem?

Thank you

Andreas
