Hi

Does DevForce have anything which I could use on a Silverlight client to know the computer name?

Strange question I know but a client wants my application to filter certain data depending on the computer being used. Who's to argue?

Hi George,

It seems that this is not possible in Silverlight, but you could use a WebService for such.

About filtering data based on a specifc computer... why not do that based on the user currently logged in? i.e. if the same client gets different data set results  based on the computer he's working on, how reliable is that? And what if the name of the computer is changed? (which is very easy to do)

I might be missing something, but this doesn't seem a very well analysed request... You might consider the cons of this approach before spending time and resources instead of being disappointed with the results later.

Best regards,
   Silvio.

Hi Silvio

You're right it isn't the best option but I'm having to work with the fact they have any existing system (WinForms) that filters data based on computer name and they want me to show the same data.

They also run 3 shifts and with the rotation, users are moved around the 4 PC's in the control room.

We have a meeting later today and I'll have to make another plan.

I just took a chance to see if DF had something under the hood.
