Just installed DevForce 2010, I’m reading the release note and I notice this:

******************************************************************

DevForce 2010 supports Silverlight, WPF, Windows Forms, ASP WebForms and ASP MVC clients.

This release of DevForce 2010 targets primarily the WPF and Silverlight developer.

DevForce 2009 Windows Forms Binding Managers are not shipped with DevForce 2010 although they are available and we continue to maintain them for DevForce 2009 and DevForce 2005.

You can still program to the BindingManager APIs with DevForce 2010. But the BindingManager Visual Designers have not been ported to Visual Studio 2010; you‟ll have to revert to VS 2008 to use them.

Please contact IdeaBlade if you intend to develop Windows Forms applications in DevForce 2010

*****************************************************************

How much effort would it take for you to provide the Binding Managers Visual Designers for VS 2010?

This is the main reason I bought the Tool and the Infragistics tool suite now it’s been taken away L

What I’m I suppose to tell my team now? Opps my bad?

Hi David,

Yes, unfortunately the Binding Mangers were not part of the initial release of DevForce 2010.  We're planning to first provide programmatic access to the Binding Managers, and then see what it will take to bring up the visual designers (the Visual Studio integration issues can be difficult).  I don't have a timeframe for it yet, but we are currently looking at it.

As a workaround, you can still use regular .NET databinding, but yes, the DevForce integration is nice.

I too think that the full Winform support for Visual Studio 2010 should be provided as soon as possible. While I applaud the effort that Ideablade has put forth to make Devforce 2010 available within days of Microsoft's release I think that the lack of full Winform support has created a significant void for the existing customer base which have Winform applications but still want to take advantage of Visual Studio 2010. At the very least Ideablade could have made this know to the user community to get feedback prior to making final plans for Devforce 2010. Given the migration issues of designers to VS2010 I assume that the latest release of Devforce 2009 (5.2.6) also lacks the disigner support.

Let me say that I understand that Ideablade has to prioritize resources and had to jump through hoops to meet schedules with Devforce 2010. I also understand that WPF/Silverlight is the future and Ideablade has to  be focused on moving forward however I am disappointed in how we found out that Winform designer support would be lacking and that it might be some time yet before Winform designer support is porvided, if ever with Devforce and VS 2010.

David and I are likely in the minority but I think that there are other users which have a need to stay with Winforms for some time yet and need the tool (Devforce) that they have grown to love for effortless databinding with DevExpress and Infragistics to be available with Visual Studio 2010. I encourage all Winforms users to let Ideablade know how important Winform Designer support is to their develoment in order that Ideablade can make the proper decision concerning priority of this issue.

rclarke - That was well stated, and we hear you loud and clear.  We very much intended to use the Release Candidate to solicit feedback from the community, and you guys have had some great suggestions, both on and off the forums.

DavidKozikowski - We also appreciate your tireless enthusiasm and did not intend to put anyone in an awkward position.

With that said, WinForms support is coming to DevForce 2010.

We are currently looking at it.  We hope to have it soon.  I will let you know as we make progress and as I find out more.
